Vocal Coaching
Singing is a natural expression of the human spirit. Children sing and hum as they play without even noticing that they are doing so. I believe everyone has a right to sing and that everyone can sing.
Some people like to sing in the car, others enjoy singing to their small children; others join choral groups or perform with bands. Whatever your desires around singing, I can help you improve your voice and expand your abilities so you can create more enjoyment in your life through the personal musical adventure of song.
I work with singers at all levels of experience and skill from the beginner to the professional. I enjoy working with people who believe they have "no voice" or "no sense of pitch." They soon learn that they do have a voice and that singing on pitch is a learned skill, not a magical talent only a few lucky people receive at birth.
I have been singing since I was old enough to smile, and have sung professionally with numerous bands and jazz ensembles and performed in musical theater and as a jazz poet and improviser.
I was an assistant to the General Director of the San Francisco Opera, and am no stranger to classical styles, but find that most of my students focus on popular styles like rock, jazz, blues, folk, and musical theater. I often help students prepare auditions for high school choral groups and community musical theater productions. I also coach church choral groups and facilitate workshops for high schools and community centers.
